Here are my top picks for romantic destinations you might not have thought of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anywhere can be romantic with the right person and mindset, but lots of people tend to find themselves stuck on the usual spots like Paris. There\u2019s nothing wrong with Paris, to be sure. I love it there! Zanzibar is an archipelago off the east coast of Africa and has so much to discover! I\u2019m obsessed with the soft sandy beaches and there\u2019s just something super romantic about the incredible sunsets there. It\u2019s perfect for exploring new areas and relaxing with someone special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the main island of the archipelago, I went to check out Stone Town. It\u2019s a historic town that\u2019s labeled a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town has winding alleys, vibrant markets, and a rich history of Swahili culture so I really felt like I got a taste of what Zanzibar had to offer. It used to be the center of the spice trade in the 19th century \u2014 how cool is that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXcuaAMq81inTWoTs8h7QIn3rltG8xlXhLJetvor3Fa1y2oF7UpCD1CPTOGWVd5WDBOZ-BREtrItAxL41q1Iwg160ca44AaSc8uDJo6yRehLE1Hov82DZihoxNZgmtzU3I2JZ_4J2A?key=CLjteLHWdD_ZvhC3geSH1PXo\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After finishing with that for the day, I went back to one of the island\u2019s incredible beach resorts to sip cocktails by the pool and have a candlelit dinner under the stars). When you\u2019re decided where to stay in Zanzibar, you can\u2019t really go wrong wherever you choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Santorini, Greece<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXeWwqdNiR4RIr368pkwlaBCsbK5FxRQLGKhbxCkuXEaSMQLgftKuqmXaWCbP7LZdinwEzAz_qcxytSVSsIN6Rrt_I2LaaeFg5Vv6LyBIwgoRmgGWz1zIIzzPjJE69N61lSXXwkXHg?key=CLjteLHWdD_ZvhC3geSH1PXo\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Okay, so <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roomcougar.com\/city\/santorini-greece\">staying in Santorini, Greece<\/a> might not be completely off the radar, but compared to Paris it still counts as one of the lesser-known most romantic destinations in the world. With its whitewashed buildings, gorgeous cliffs, and sparkling blue seas, this Greek island is basically made for feeling the love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two main spots where people stay on Santorini: Fira (also called Thera or Thira) and Oia. The first one is the main city on the island but it\u2019s a little more crowded (still less than Paris!). Oia is a picturesque little spot, and my personal favorite place to stay because of the iconic windmills. Oia is quieter and great for couples looking for a more secluded spot when choosing romantic travel destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXd_crt46ghTx8cvxHxXyXfwlJd-unEuYzJY6_7CC6LdG9msfYljvDMU8iXMtYlcIAAnfl-ELd3PSiM7WApWYiQrMQVW0pumCpD7be_Xwb1SkgXZmc1fHosjQu-kR3nrA6lxvLfbjQ?key=CLjteLHWdD_ZvhC3geSH1PXo\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I started the day with breakfast overlooking the caldera (which I highly recommend!) then checked out the super cool black sand beaches. I also went to see incredible ancient caves and try out local wines at a vineyard. My time in Santorini is never long enough because I never want to leave!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pro tip for couples? Consider going to this romantic getaway destination during the off season to avoid summer crowds. Even though they\u2019re smaller than places like Paris, the narrow streets can feel a little crowded during peak season so that\u2019s when I prefer to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. One of my favorites is the Oregon Coast. It\u2019s close enough to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roomcougar.com\/city\/portland-oregon\">hotels in Portland, Oregon<\/a> so I can do it as a day trip while still staying in the main city, but you can check out some of the cute little hotels along the coast if you don\u2019t want to do the drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdX8XActLAjdcmPLUOuHkCJ1-TxSaO8roYpF8KG-mjpbWUt43fMQLxcf-SS4FSCaBWzGpTK7EULxIKJ5pEKEIPlnxP0aFi-QMNDIB6AqO2w9SbXUj2ZnF4G5o0A-rrOWuYfh4ds1g?key=CLjteLHWdD_ZvhC3geSH1PXo\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Oregon Coast is a hidden gem that\u2019s one of my faves for couples who love being out in nature while keeping up the cozy vibes. I\u2019ve taken long walks on the beaches, gone hiking in impressive Pacific Northwest forests, and spent the evening cozied up by the fireplace. It\u2019s all there and awesome to experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, too, so I never miss the salt water taffy from the little shops all along the Oregon Coast. It\u2019s a smaller city that\u2019s perfect for couples who love beautiful architecture, culture, and a little touch of whimsy. And who doesn\u2019t love a little whimsy, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love to take a romantic stroll along the Ljubljanica River and check out all the colorful buildings along the water. Then I\u2019ll spend time in the cafes eating delicious food or having a coffee. I\u2019ve also rented a paddleboat for a fun afternoon experience and visited Ljubljana Castle for panoramic views of the city that took my breath away. Can\u2019t recommend all these activities enough!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the evening, this is one the most romantic destinations in the world for a candlelit dinner. Enjoying the incredible food and trying local Slovenian wines was a real treat for me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Bali might be famous for its party scene and Instagram-worthy spots, but Sanur is the quieter, more intimate side of the island that I love to visit. This is one of the most romantic destinations known for its laid-back vibe and beautiful beaches. It\u2019s another hidden treasure anytime I\u2019m looking for a peaceful retreat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Sanur, I like to start off the day with a sunrise walk along the beachfront promenade then get a traditional Balinese massage (one of the best I\u2019ve ever had). Then I\u2019ll go check out the local art scene, stop to eat the freshest seafood around, or just take the entire day to relax.
